Getting Started

How do I create my first account?

Go to Accounts → tap the "+" button → Enter account name and currency → Save. See Managing Accounts for details.

Can I import my existing data instead of entering it manually?

Yes! Use the Import feature to load data from:

  • Previously exported StocksBoard data (extension .gz)
  • Generic CSV files from your broker
  • My Stock Portfolio app export

How do I add my first investment?

  1. Go to Holdings → tap "+"
  2. Search for the security (e.g., "Apple" or "AAPL")
  3. Enter quantity and purchase details
  4. Save

Portfolio Management

How does StocksBoard calculate my account value?

Account value = Sum of all holdings' market values + Cash held in account

  • Holdings value = Quantity of shares × Current market price
  • StocksBoard pulls current prices automatically

How is my portfolio's return calculated?

Return % = 100 × (Current Value - Cost Basis) / Cost Basis

  • Cost Basis = Total amount you paid for shares (including fees)
  • Current Value = Current market value
  • Gain/Loss = Current Value - Cost Basis

Can I have accounts in different currencies?

Yes! Each account can have its own currency. The portfolio total will use your default currency (convertible accounts will be converted).

To change the default currency, go to SettingsDefault Currency.

How do I handle stock splits correctly?

  1. Go to TransactionsAdd Transaction
  2. Select transaction type: Split
  3. Enter:
    • Old Ratio: Original shares (e.g., 1)
    • New Ratio: New shares (e.g., 2) for a 2:1 split
  4. Save

Your quantity will update automatically from the split ratio.

How do I sell shares?

  1. Go to TransactionsAdd Transaction
  2. Select Sell
  3. Enter:
    • Account holding the shares
    • Asset name/ticker
    • Quantity selling
    • Sale price per share
    • Date of sale
    • Any fees (optional)
  4. Save

Your holding quantity decreases automatically.

Can I show closed positions (sold holdings)?

Yes. Go to SettingsShow Closed Positions → toggle On.

Closed positions show zero quantity but remain in your history for performance analysis.

Reports & Analytics

How do I create a custom report?

  1. Go to ReportsCreate Custom Report
  2. Choose data source (Holdings, Transactions, Accounts)
  3. Set up rows (how to group data)
  4. Set up columns (what metrics to show)
  5. Add filters if needed
  6. Name and save the report

What metrics can I include in a report?

Common metrics include:

  • Value: Current market value
  • Quantity: Number of shares
  • Cost Basis: Original purchase cost
  • Gain/Loss: Unrealized gain/loss
  • Return %: Percentage return
  • Dividend Income: Total dividends received

Can I export my reports?

Yes! Open a report → tap Export → choose format:

  • CSV (for Excel)
  • PDF (for printing)
  • Image (for sharing)

How do I track my dividend income?

  1. Record each dividend as a Dividend transaction
  2. Create a report with:
    • Data source: Transactions (filter for dividends)
    • Rows: Asset or Date
    • Columns: Amount

This shows your dividend income over time.

Cloud Sync & Backup

How do I backup my data to Google Drive?

  1. Go to SettingsCloud Sync
  2. Select Connect to Google Drive
  3. Authorize the app
  4. Enable Google Drive Sync

Your data automatically backs up to Google Drive.

How do I restore from a backup?

  1. Uninstall and reinstall StocksBoard
  2. During onboarding, select Restore from Cloud
  3. Choose your cloud provider and authorize
  4. Select the backup to restore
  5. Tap Restore

Import & Export

What CSV format does StocksBoard require?

StocksBoard accepts flexible CSV formats. You can map columns to:

  • Date, Symbol, Transaction Type, Quantity, Price, Amount, Fee, Account, etc.

Can I import from my specific broker?

If your broker exports CSV or Excel, you can likely import it using the "Other CSV Import" feature with column mapping.

If your broker isn't listed, try:

  1. Export from your broker as CSV
  2. Use ImportOther CSV
  3. Map the columns
  4. Preview and import

How do I export my data?

  1. Go to Export
  2. Choose format:
    • CSV (spreadsheet-compatible)
    • JSON (structured data)
    • Backup (complete database)
  3. Download or share the file

Customization & Settings

How do I change the app theme?

  1. Go to SettingsTheme
  2. Choose:
    • Light Mode: Traditional interface
    • Dark Mode: Dark interface
    • System Default: Follows device settings
  3. Changes apply immediately

Can I adjust the text size?

Yes! Go to SettingsFont Size and select:

  • Small, Default, Large, or Extra Large

How do I manage app permissions?

  1. Go to SettingsApp Permissions
  2. Check which permissions are enabled:
    • Storage (for imports)
    • Camera (for scanning, optional)
    • Cloud services (for sync)
  3. Tap a permission to enable/disable in device settings

How do I reset the app?

This action is irreversible unless you have a backup.

  1. Go SettingsData Management
  2. Tap Clear All Data
  3. Confirm (usually requires second confirmation)

After clearing, you can restore from a cloud backup or reimport data.

Troubleshooting

My data didn't import correctly. What should I do?

  1. Check the column mapping:

    • Ensure dates are in correct format (MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY)
    • Verify symbols match the security names in the system
    • Check that quantities and prices are numbers
  2. Try importing a smaller test file first to identify issues

The app is running slowly with large data sets

  1. Toggle Show Closed Positions to OFF in Settings (reduces items to display)
  2. Restart the app completely
  3. Sync/backup your data and clear the app to start fresh with only recent data
  4. Try breaking very large portfolios into separate accounts

I can't connect to Google Drive/Dropbox

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Go to SettingsApp Permissions and ensure cloud storage is enabled
  3. Disconnect and reconnect to the cloud service
  4. Clear app cache and try again

Transactions aren't updating my holdings

  1. Verify the transaction is associated with the correct account and asset
  2. Check the transaction type is correct (Buy, Sell, etc.)
  3. Ensure the quantity is entered correctly
  4. Go back and edit the transaction if needed

The app crashed or froze

  1. Force close the app completely
  2. Wait 10 seconds
  3. Reopen the app
  4. If the issue persists, consider clearing the app data and restoring from backup

Where can I request a new feature?

Check the Settings menu for support contact information or feature request options.

How do I report a bug?

  1. Go to SettingsHelp & Support
  2. Choose Report a Problem or Send Debug Info
  3. Describe the issue
  4. Support team will investigate

Is my data secure?

Yes! Your data is:

  • Stored locally on your device by default
  • Encrypted when synced to Google Drive or Dropbox
  • Never shared or sold
  • Only accessed by you (and cloud services you authorize)
