Managing Accounts

An Account in StocksBoard represents a financial account where you hold investments. You might have multiple accounts such as a 401(k), IRA, brokerage account, or investor account.

Creating an Account

  1. Navigate to Accounts from the main menu
  2. Tap the "+" button or "Add Account" button
  3. Enter the following information:
    • Account Name: A descriptive name (e.g., "My Brokerage Account", "Roth IRA")
    • Description (optional): Any other useful info about this account
    • Account Type (optional): Categorize your account (Investment, CD or Cash)
    • Registration (optional): Tax Free (ex. Roth IRA), Tax Deferred (IRA, 401(k))
    • Institution (optional): The broker or bank, used for custom reporting
  4. Tap Save

Viewing Your Accounts

The Accounts page shows all your accounts with the attributes and metrics below (TODO):

  • Account Name: The name you assigned
  • Total Value: Current market value of all holdings in the account
  • Cash Held: Any uninvested cash in the account
  • Account Holdings: Number of different securities held

Tap any account to see:

  • Detailed list of all holdings in that account
  • Account statistics and performance metrics
  • Option to add or remove holdings
  • Option to edit account details

Editing an Account

  1. Go to Accounts
  2. Tap the account you want to edit
  3. Tap the Edit button (pencil icon)
  4. Update the account details
  5. Tap Save

Account Balance & Valuation

StocksBoard automatically calculates your account valuation by:

  • Tracking your holdings (shares owned × current price)
  • Accumulating any cash held in the account
  • Showing net changes based on transactions

The total value is displayed prominently on the Accounts page.

Organizing Multiple Accounts

If you have many accounts, you can:

  • Use descriptive names with prefixes (e.g., "2024 - Brokerage", "2024 - Roth IRA")
  • Group accounts by account type when viewing the full list
  • Filter views by specific accounts in Reports

Deleting an Account

Deleting an account will remove all associated transactions and holdings data.

  1. Go to Accounts
  2. Tap the account you want to delete
  3. Tap the Delete button (trash icon)
  4. Confirm the deletion

Tips

  • Use consistent naming conventions for your accounts to keep them organized
  • Set the currency appropriately if you have accounts in different currencies
  • Record your starting balance to get accurate return calculations
  • If you have historical data, import it using the Import feature
