Reports & Analytics

Reports in StocksBoard let you analyze your portfolio with custom pivot tables and views. Create visualizations that answer questions like:

  • What's my allocation by asset class?
  • How have my accounts performed over time?
  • Which securities are my largest positions?
  • What's my dividend income by account?

Creating a Report

Method 1: Quick Reports

  1. Navigate to Reports from the menu
  2. You'll see pre-built report templates:
    • Holdings by Account
    • Holdings by Asset Type
    • Account Performance
    • Dividend Summary
  3. Tap any report to view it immediately

Method 2: Custom Reports

  1. Go to Reports
  2. Tap Create Custom Report or the "+" button
  3. Configure your report:

Report Configuration

Step 1: Choose Your Data Source

  • Holdings: Current positions and values
  • Transactions: Historical transaction activity
  • Accounts: Account-level summaries
  • All Data: Combined portfolio view

Step 2: Set Up Rows

Rows determine how your data is grouped. Common row options:

  • Account: Group by account
  • Asset: Group by security
  • Asset Type: Group by category (stocks, ETFs, etc.)
  • Date: Group by transaction date
  • Sector: Group by industry sector (when available)
  • Custom Field: Group by your own categories

You can have multiple row levels (nested/hierarchical grouping).

Step 3: Set Up Columns

Columns determine what metrics are calculated:

  • Value: Current market value
  • Quantity: Number of shares
  • Cost Basis: Original purchase price
  • Gain/Loss: Unrealized gain or loss
  • Return %: Percentage return
  • Dividend Income: Total dividends received
  • Count: Number of transactions
  • Average Price: Average purchase price

Step 4: Add Filters

Filter your report to show only relevant data:

  • Account: Show specific accounts
  • Date Range: Show transactions within a time period
  • Asset Type: Show only certain security types
  • Holding Status: Show only open positions, closed positions, or both

Step 5: Name & Save

  1. Enter a meaningful name for your report
    • Examples: "Tech Holdings 2024", "Dividend Income by Account"
  2. Choose to:
    • Save as Template: Reuse this report configuration
    • Save as View: Create this report once
  3. Tap Save

Working with Reports

Viewing Your Saved Reports

  1. Go to Reports
  2. Your saved reports appear in the list
  3. Tap any report to view the pivot table
  4. Swipe/scroll to see all rows and columns

Editing a Report

  1. Open the report you want to modify
  2. Tap the Edit button (pencil icon)
  3. Change:
    • Row/column configuration
    • Filters
    • Metrics displayed
  4. Tap Save to update

Duplicating a Report

  1. Select a report
  2. Tap Duplicate
  3. Edit the copy as needed
  4. Save with a new name

This is useful for creating variations on existing reports.

Exporting Report Data

  1. Open a report
  2. Tap Export or the share icon
  3. Choose format:
    • CSV (for Excel analysis)
    • PDF (for printing/sharing)
    • Image (for sharing/viewing)
  4. Share or save the file

Common Report Examples

1. Asset Allocation Report

Purpose: See what percentage of your portfolio is in each asset

Configuration:

  • Rows: Asset
  • Columns: Value
  • Format: Show as percentages
  • Filter: Only open positions

Result: "Tech: 45%, Energy: 20%, Real Estate: 35%"

2. Performance by Account

Purpose: Compare how your accounts are performing

Configuration:

  • Rows: Account
  • Columns: Cost Basis, Current Value, Gain/Loss %, Return %
  • Filter: None

Result: Table showing which accounts are up/down and by how much

3. Dividend Income Tracker

Purpose: Monitor dividend income over time

Configuration:

  • Data Source: Transactions (filter for dividends)
  • Rows: Date (by month), Asset
  • Columns: Amount, Count
  • Filter: Type = Dividend

Result: "June: $240 from 5 dividends, July: $260 from 6 dividends"

4. Holdings Concentration

Purpose: See if any positions are too large

Configuration:

  • Rows: Asset
  • Columns: Value, Value %
  • Sort: By Value % (descending)
  • Filter: Account = All

Result: Identifies your top 10 positions by percentage

5. Corporate Actions Review

Purpose: Track all stock splits, mergers, and adjustments

Configuration:

  • Data Source: Transactions
  • Rows: Asset, Date
  • Columns: Type, Old Quantity, New Quantity
  • Filter: Type in (SPLIT, MERGER, SPINOFF)

Result: History of all corporate actions affecting your holdings

Report Tips

  • Start simple: Create basic single-level reports before complex nested views
  • Save templates: Create templates for reports you use regularly
  • Date ranges: Use filters to focus on specific time periods
  • Nested grouping: Create hierarchical views like "Account → Asset → Symbol"
  • Regular review: Set up weekly/monthly reports to track progress
  • Comparisons: Create identical reports for different date ranges to track changes

Performance Metrics Explained

Cost Basis

  • Total amount you paid for all shares (not including current market price)
  • Used to calculate capital gains

Unrealized Gain/Loss

  • Difference between current value and cost basis
  • Only applies to open positions

Return %

  • Percentage gain/loss on your investment
  • Formula: (Current Value - Cost Basis) / Cost Basis × 100

Yield

  • Annual dividend income as a percentage of current value
  • Used for income-focused strategies

Limitations & Considerations

  • Real-time pricing: Reports reflect prices as of the last update
  • Date boundaries: Some metrics may not calculate correctly for partial time periods
  • Currency: Reports show values in the account currency
  • Closed positions: By default, closed positions are excluded (unless filtered in)
