Settings & Customization
The Settings section allows you to customize StocksBoard to your preferences and manage your account and data.
Appearance Settings
Theme
Choose how StocksBoard looks:
- Light Mode: Traditional light interface (good for bright environments)
- Dark Mode: Dark interface (easier on eyes in low light, saves battery on OLED screens)
- System Default: Follows your device's system-wide theme preference
To change:
- Go to Settings → Theme
- Select your preferred theme
- The app updates immediately
Font Size
Adjust text size for readability:
- Small: For those who prefer compact views
- Default: Recommended for most users
- Large: Easier reading without zooming
- Extra Large: Maximum accessibility
To change:
- Go to Settings → Font Size
- Tap the size you prefer
- All text updates immediately
The font size applies system-wide to all text in the app.
Financial Settings
Default Currency
Set your portfolio's base currency:
- Go to Settings → Default Currency
- Search and select your preferred currency (USD or CAD)
- This is used for:
- Displaying portfolio totals
- Exporting data
- Multi-currency conversions
- Individual holdings will still use their default currency
Show Closed Positions
Control whether closed holdings (sold positions) appear in your views:
- Go to Settings → Show Closed Positions
- Toggle On to show all positions (including sold holdings)
- Toggle Off to hide positions with zero quantity
Benefits of showing closed positions:
- See your complete trading history
- Analyze performance of liquidated holdings
- Review which investments didn't work out
Sample Accounts
During onboarding:
- Scroll to Sample Data
- Check the Create sample account option
- The app creates:
- A sample account
- Sample holdings (popular companies)
- Sample transactions (buy, sell, dividend examples)
This is useful for:
- Learning how the app works before entering real data
- Testing reports and features
- Trying different account structures
You can delete sample data later when ready to enter your own data.
Cloud & Data Settings
Cloud Sync
Connect to cloud services for backup and synchronization:

- Automatic backups
- Restoring from backups
Export Data
Backup your complete portfolio:
See Import/Export Guide for details on:
- Exporting to CSV, JSON, or backup format
- Regular backups
- Transferring between devices
Clear All Data
This action is irreversible. Make sure you have a backup before proceeding.
To delete all data from your device:
- Go to Settings → Data Management
- Tap Clear All Data
- Confirm the action (usually requires second confirmation)
- The app resets to initial state
After clearing:
- All accounts, holdings, and transactions are deleted
- You can restore from a cloud backup or imported file
Device Permissions
StocksBoard requires certain permissions to function properly:
iOS
Tap Settings → App Permissions to check:
- Camera (for scanning receipts/documents) - optional
- Files (for importing CSV files) - required
- Cloud Storage (for Google Drive/Dropbox) - optional
Android
Tap Settings → App Permissions to check:
- Storage (for importing and exporting files) - required
- Camera (for scanning) - optional
- Internet (for cloud sync) - required
If any required permission is disabled:
- Tap the permission
- You'll be guided to your device's Settings app
- Enable the permission
- Return to StocksBoard
About & Legal
App Version
View your current app version:
- Go to Settings → About
- See version number (e.g., "2.1.4")
- Check if updates are available
Check for Updates
To update StocksBoard:
- Go to Settings → Check for Updates
- If an update is available, you'll be directed to the App Store/Play Store
- Install the latest version
Privacy Policy
Review StocksBoard's privacy practices:
- Go to Settings → Privacy Policy
- Opens in your web browser
- Covers data collection, usage, and protection
Terms of Service
Read the end-user agreement:
- Go to Settings → Terms of Service
- Opens in your web browser
- Covers usage terms and restrictions
Send Debug Info
For troubleshooting issues:
- Go to Settings → Help & Support → Send Debug Info
- This creates an anonymized report of your app state
- You can send it to support to help diagnose issues
Debug info contains no personal financial data, only technical information about your app setup.
Accessibility Settings
Text Zoom (iOS only)
Some paragraphs can be zoomed for better readability:
- Go to Settings → Text Zoom
- Use the slider to adjust
- Applies to longer text passages
Color Contrast
Improve contrast for better visibility:
- Go to Settings → Accessibility
- Toggle High Contrast if available
- May improve readability in bright environments
Screen Reader Support
StocksBoard is compatible with:
- iOS: VoiceOver
- Android: TalkBack
Activate in your device's accessibility settings.
Tips for Settings
- Experiment: Try different themes and font sizes to find what works best
- Backup first: Always backup data before clearing or resetting
- Permissions: Grant only necessary permissions
- Check updates: Regularly check for latest features and fixes
- Theme for time of day: Light mode during day, dark mode at night
- Sample data: Use sample accounts to explore before committing real data
Troubleshooting Settings
Settings Not Saving
- Force close the app completely
- Reopen StocksBoard
- Try changing the setting again
App Running Slow with Large Data
- Toggle "Show Closed Positions" to OFF to reduce display items
- Clear cache in Settings → Data Management (if available)
- Try restarting the app

Permission Denied Errors
- Check your device's Settings app for app permissions
- Re-enable the required permission
- Force close and reopen StocksBoard
